In 1985 he built his first home, and after working with different contracting companies, he decided it was time to open his own business. “I teamed up with two other contractors, and we all had our own area of expertise,” says Denzer. “We were all builders with different yet complimentary backgrounds, and we felt that if we put our heads together, we would have triple the force.” And so in 1998, three guys started 3builders. Shortly after our Young Professional feature ran, Rick’s all-bamboo wedding cake was named “Best Cake in Hawai‘i” by People magazine. That same year Food Network contacted us to compete on their show, “Challenge.” We unfortunately couldn’t get away at the time, but we created a continuing relationship with Food Network.
