Two years ago a few startup companies found themselves in a growing business’ equivalent to no man’s land. They had enrolled in the Virtual Incubation Program at the Manoa Innovation Center, a state-funded facility that helps new tech businesses get off the ground. They had access to the center’s benefits: a copy machine, postage meter, mail services and conference rooms. What they didn’t have—what differentiated them from the center’s traditional tenants—was office space.
