Golf course architecture started out very modestly in Hawai‘i. Historically, it all started with an idea, according to columnist Greg Nichols. Matson Navigation Company, who first brought golf courses to attract customers to their Royal Hawaiian Hotel, stoked the boom that brought more prominent and artistically designed golf courses to Hawai‘i.
