Business and the Blog
Using Your Online Voice

I feel so fortunate to hear this at least a few times per week, sometimes more. “I’m honored that you read it,” I reply (usually with a hug). I’m not embarrassed to give that hug, because if someone’s reading it and they love it, then they love me, and weare automatically friends. That’s why I put my blog out there.
In business, having an online voice makes you stand out. If people aren’t hearing it they’ll move on, but if they are, the results can be amazing. A blog (short for “web log”) is more than just an online journal. It’s a real connection, and it matters: Someone you’ve never met suddenly identifies with you. But writing a blog that draws readers in and keeps them there takes a little effort and practice. You don’t have to share the intimate details of your life or list the boring minutiae day-to-day business; just provide insight into what’s behind the company you run. How can you do that most effectively?
